The theme for the 2023 conference is Navigating the Open Seas – Collaboration on our Critical Infrastructure.
Since the SubOptic 2019 conference, major worldwide shifts have further highlighted the criticality of subsea cables as part of our global infrastructure. The pandemic of 2020 has created a new age of remote working, and the impact our industry has on facilitating the global digital economy is more important than ever before. Fundamental changes that require cross-industry collaboration are needed to keep pace with the growth in demand being experienced by the submarine industry. Closing the digital divide via increased connectivity and access is underway with new systems being built across the world, and as the industry builds an ever expanding subsea infrastructure, the environmental and social responsibility of the subsea community is essential.
As for recent SubOptic conferences, we have split the role of Programme Chair and Papers Chair. The Programme Chair will be assisted by a number of individuals from the industry, ensuring the breadth and depth expected of the programme selection and will challenge some of the established practices in the structure of the conference programme. The Programme Chair and Committee is now in place and planning has begun.
The Papers Chair will be assisted by a Vice Chair in each of the topic areas and these Vice Chairs are also now in place. While we are looking at some adjustments to the structure of the programme, there will be the traditional ‘Call for Papers’ and peer review selection process launched in April 2022. Building on successive successful prior conferences we are planning an even more exciting and challenging conference programme. We are delighted to announce that the Programme Committee for SubOptic 2023 will be:
