Mattia Cantono is a staff network architect at Google where he focuses on next generation terrestrial
and subsea optical architectures. Mattia obtained his Ph.D. magna cum laude in 2018 in Electronic and
Communication Engineering at Politecnico di Torino with a thesis on physical layer aware open optical
networks. Mattia holds a M.Sc cum laude in telecommunications engineering from the Politecnico di Torino
and Politecnico di Milano (Italy, 2014) and a B.Sc. cum laude in information technology engineering (2012) from
Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano, (Italy) and Tongji University, Shanghai (China). Mattia has authored
and co-authored more than 70 publications and patents in the field of optical systems and networks.
