Michael Hubbard, Director, Optical System Performance, Ciena

Michael Hubbard has worked in the field of high-capacity fiber optic telecommunications since 1998.  He has held various roles covering the physics of optical propagation, digital client HW architecture, coherent optical terminal development for subsea telecommunications, and next generation coherent modem development.  Most recently he is Director of Optical System Performance, where his team is responsible for the measurement and modelling of optical performance for both modems and optical line systems at Ciena.
Michael received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Alberta and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University at Kingston.
