Zhongwen Zhan, Professor, California Institute of Technology

Zhongwen’s research focuses on turning fiber-optic cables into seismic networks to study earthquakes and
other subsurface processes. The goal is to help build safer and more sustainable communities by improving
earthquake early warning and ocean monitoring. Zhongwen received his PhD in 2013 from Caltech, and the
Macelwane Medal from the American Geophysical Union in 2022.
